Sources in the New York City Police Department have told IrishCentral that the "security situation" with "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson has gotten "out of control," and cops are planning on assuming more-stringent control over the young actor's security when he is in town.
"Enough is enough," said a highly-placed official at Police Headquarters. "His security people aren't up to the task of keeping him safe, and they have no idea how to deal with the crowds this guy attracts." The source pointed to a well-publicized incident in which Pattinson ran from a crowd of admirers and was slightly injured when he was struck by a taxi.
"That's amateur hour," the police spokesman said. "We have celebrities a lot bigger than this guy who can come and go in perfect safety because we know how to take the right precautions. We have presidents and kings come and go. This poor kid can't get in or out of a car without things getting dangerous."
The police source confirmed what Irish Central has been told by other members of the department — that "Pattinson's people" want to be in full charge of the actor, his travels through the city, the sets used for various shoots, and all security matters involved. But it seems that they underestimated fans' rabid interest in the handsome star, who has complained that fans get close enough to tousle his hair and grab his clothing.
Pattinson himself is reportedly very troubled by the close proximity to fans in which he must work, and has complained that they are able to find what hotels he stays at and what restaurants he dines in.
Police said they were particularly concerned about the so-called "Twiheads" — fans who have so completely embraced the vampire theme of "Twilight," and who have confronted the actor asking for his blood and even cut themselves so they can bleed for him. [<---um, what?!]
The Department has long experience in the protection of the hundreds of recognizable celebrities who live and work in the city, and while the Mayor's Office has a special and well-regarded film and motion-picture office and works to coordinate the needs of a studio with the demands of public safety, the police have ultimate responsibility for keeping the peace.
Apparently, they believe it's time they reminded the Summit Entertainment security staffers who is in charge before a weird fan encounter turns into something more serious.

A pair of high-profile stars who began the mega-franchise with Lefevre, however, did agree to speak with us on the record. And they were eager to say that they've spent the last few days sharing one key emotion with their fans: sadness.
"Who?" said Peter Facinelli, trying to force a grin when we brought up the headline-garnering story.
"I can say that I'm saddened that the dates didn't work out," the affable actor explained, referring to both Lefevre's and Summit's claims that a 10-day shooting overlap with another film was the reason she will be replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in "Eclipse."
Asked if he had been keeping up on the news, Jackson Rathbone replied, "I have, I have," getting serious as he spoke about the subject. "You know, Rachelle's a dear friend, and I'll miss her terribly."
The uncommonly public dispute has put the stars in an uncomfortable position, as they have to balance their words carefully about having a friend and co-worker fired while at the same time not badmouthing their boss.
"I really can't say anything on the business side," said Rathbone, who spent the weekend signing autographs, performing with his band 100 Monkeys, and even participating in a "Coffee With Jackson Rathbone" brunch. "Rachelle is an amazing actress and an amazing woman."
If there is a silver lining to the cloud, however, it's that the new Victoria is an award-caliber actress of the highest order. "I'm excited to work with her," Facinelli said of Howard. "But again, I'm deeply saddened that Rachelle is not going to be in 'Eclipse.' "
"I love [Lefevre] like a sister; it deeply saddens me," he added. "But you know, the show must go on. We're going to embrace Bryce Dallas Howard — and I hope that the fans do, too."
"I would love to work with Rachelle again," reasoned Rathbone. "I'm really sad that I'm not going to get to work with her on the final film of the franchise we started together."

Cast to appear at Fox teen choice awards
The "Teen Choice 2009" is rapidly approaching and the wildly popular cast of 'Twilight' will appear on the two-hour special, ET confirms.
‘Twilight’ actors Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz are all set to attend the Fox awards show, hosted by the Jonas Brothers.
The Awards will air on Fox next Monday. (8/10/09)

Rachelle takes Summit to court
Now the fall out is about to turn ugly - Lefevre has called in her lawyers to secure the salary she was due to receive for the third installment of the Twilight films, citing breach of contract.
She alleges her agreement with Summit Entertainment allows her to pursue small independent films while still being involved in the vampire franchise.
One source tells Eonline's Marc Malkin, "Rachelle's contract says she's allowed to do smaller projects like Barney's Version."
But studio bosses are claiming otherwise and insist Lefevre is owed nothing.

first, a chat about the Twilight panel from that morning... Chris Weitz: It was this crazy thing, which everybody was kind of warning us about. 7,000 Twilight fans in a room screaming for Rob.
Me: It's an uncanny sound. I think only teenage girls can make that sound.
That high, keening noise.
That's the only thing I can think of, the Beatles. You see old footage of that type of thing. It happened in Montepulciano, when we were shooting there. It was like The Birds, but with young girls. You'd turn a corner and there would be one or two or three. And the next time you looked there would be 10, 20, 50, 100.
Then before you know it gas stations are exploding.
Exactly. I think basically the panel today would have worked perfectly for the fans if it had just been us sitting there, and they could just look at Rob and Taylor. Maybe Rob and Taylor would move a little.
Taylor seems the most comfortable with this level of scrutiny. He doesn't squirm as much.
It's funny. In a way he's the least prepared for the intense scrutiny, but he's very balanced about it. Whereas I think Rob and Kristen are very sheepish about it. Not that they don't appreciate it. But they're thrown a bit by it.
I hope there's sparkling in this one.
There will be lots of sparkling.
I liked the vibe between Bella and Jacob. It felt real, but also different from the way she interacts with Edward.
Taylor's very much like the character, tremendously sunny and upbeat. And Kristen is very protective of Taylor, actually. He's 17 now, and Kristen's been working since Panic Room if not before that. She wanted to make sure Taylor was protected from the world, and that works perfectly with the dynamic of the book.
I have to say, his torso in the clip you showed today was unlike any human torso I have ever seen.
It's pretty astonishing. He did work very very hard.
Was that CGI?
I swear to God, it was all his hard work.
